Sol Santana (they/them) is a Brazilian-Swiss non-binary transdisciplinary artist working across performance, installation, moving-image, and writing. Their practice explores queer futurity, migrant identities, and world-building practices that envision alternative forms of coexistence rooted in care, sustainability, and transformation.
Their work has been presented at Raumstation (ALLDA), the ACT Performance Festival (Zurich), and Provitreff, as well as at Chisenhale Dance Space, New Diorama Theatre, Artsadmin Toynbee Studios, Rio Cinema, Electrowerkz, Greatorex Street Gallery, and hARTslane Gallery in London. Further presentations include the Fractalia Performance Festival, Riposte Queer Art Rave, Trans*Performativity (Nottingham, Leeds, Birmingham, London), the Nunhead Cemetery Open Day (London), Anjos70 and Evoé/Forum Dança (Lisbon), and PACA (Aix-en-Provence, France).
Sol has undertaken residencies at Fabric (Nottingham) and PACA (Aix-en-Provence). Their practice has been supported by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London), the Bow Arts Trust, and both the Canton and City of Schaffhausen (Switzerland).
They hold an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths University of London, a BA in Fine Arts from Zurich University of the Arts, and completed training in Acting and Contemporary Dance at Evoé Acting School and Forum Dança in Lisbon. During their time at Schauspielhaus Zürich, Sol also collaborated as a directing assistant and translator for acclaimed Brazilian theatre and film director Christiane Jatahy.
